Power of Prayer

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— Ephesians 6:18 NKJV

A lot of people miss this part, but prayer is part of our armor. In fact, prayer is essential for standing our ground against our enemy. Prayer connects us with the power needed to overcome our negative thoughts, temptations, lustful desires and self-centered ways. Without prayer we are working in our strength.

What do we pray for? We pray for God’s will to be done in our lives. We pray for His will in others lives too. We ask God to help us. We pour out our requests. Nevertheless it is God’s will we desire.

Read today’s verse again. Circle the words “praying always”, “wathchful” and “perseverance”. Praying always is a clue to the importance God places on everything in our lives. He wants us to talk with Him about it all. Nothing is too small for His attention. Nothing is too big He can’t handle.

Being watchful indicates we are to be intentional and purposeful. We have been given people in our lives to pray for. They are all around. We must be mindful of what’s going on with them so we can pray effectively for them.

Perseverance speaks to holding on to the hope we have in Christ. No manner how bad it gets we need to remember God is still in control. He has a plan and purpose for what’s going on. Our part is to persevere until we see God face to face.

Lord prayer is a special privilege you have given us. Help us to speak to you often. As James 4:8 tells us “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you”. Let that be our prayer to draw near you this day. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
